Parity
First-person horror · Puzzle
A deep-sea relay station where every object has a duplicate that is exactly one bit wrong. Find the difference before it finds you.
Independent studio / Est. 2019
00 Manifesto
A checkbit is the smallest possible act of care. One extra bit, carried alongside the message, purely to prove nothing was lost. That is the entire studio in one word.
We are eleven people who would rather ship one uncompromising thing than four safe ones. No committees. No focus-tested edges. Every system in our games is authored by the person who will also have to defend it.
We keep our team small on purpose, our scope honest, and our worlds strange enough that you'll still be thinking about them a year later.
How we work01 The Slate
Three shelves. The games, the apps we spun out of them, and the tools we had to build first.
First-person horror · Puzzle
A deep-sea relay station where every object has a duplicate that is exactly one bit wrong. Find the difference before it finds you.
Tactical infiltration · Roguelike
Break into a hostile network one node at a time. Every run rewrites the topology. Nothing is ever in the same place twice.
Narrative adventure
Twelve hours of dusk on a shoreline that keeps forgetting you. Our first game, and still the one people write to us about.
Experiment · 40 minutes
The weekend build that became Parity. Still online, still free, still exactly as unfinished as we left it.
Ambient audio · Focus
Eleven hours of real rooms, recorded for Halflight Coast and never used. Now a player that runs quietly behind your work.
Frame capture · Review
Grab a frame, mark it up, send it to whoever broke it. Built for our own art reviews, then people kept asking for a copy.
Second screen · Field manual
The station's own maintenance handbook, as the technicians left it. Readable on its own. More useful while the game is running.
Renderer · Engine
Our own renderer, written for one thing: two versions of the same room, lit identically, swapped without a frame of tell.
Toolchain · Determinism
Authors a room twice and proves the two are identical except where you said they should not be. The whole trick, given away.
Audio · Capture rig
The rig we take into real rooms to record how they answer back. Schematics, firmware and the capture app, all of it.
02 Current Project
Station 9 · 4,200 metres · Something down here counts wrong
Parity is a first-person horror game about verification. You are the last technician aboard a deep-sea relay station whose redundant systems have begun to disagree with each other. Two of every chair. Two of every corridor. Two of every you.
There is no weapon and no inventory. There is a handheld comparator, a finite number of checks per shift, and a station that quietly rearranges itself between them.
03 The Studio
checkbit interactive was founded in 2019 by three people who had just shipped somebody else's game and did not recognise it. We are still independent, still self-funded past the first title, and still answering our own support email.
We work remote-first with a shared studio week every quarter, because some arguments only resolve in a room.
04 Careers
We hire slowly and rarely. When we do, we look for people who have finished something difficult and can say exactly why it works. No take-home tests. No unpaid trials.
